August Affirmations 2026

“Being different is everything. It is the way forward.” -Betty Davis
Now, I’m not the biggest TV and movie buff, so I’m happy to stand corrected; but I don’t think I know of one story in our most consumed media where the Protagonist is the same as everyone around them. Growing up, all of my favorite books and movies were about people who were different, people who disrupted the quiet hum of a system that everyone else bought into. From Matilda to Poetic Justice to even Spice World, all the main characters were those who couldn’t hide what made them different, and we would find that those different traits were most needed.
I got used to being called “weird” when I was very young. Even if that word wasn’t used, I was accustomed to being looked at, even shown off as the one doing or thinking something different, something that seemed strange. Lucky for Me, this didn’t result in anything too detrimental like some of my favorite characters from books and movies, but it still incited something in Me. In junior high and high school, I decided to lean into being different, weird. Starting from my soft goth phase and leading into being the one in my friend group most knowledgeable and comfortable (or so I portrayed) with the topic of sex. I decided to beat people to the punch if they were going to think Me strange anyway.
All of this was fine, for the most part, it just took a lot of energy - so much trying. Over the years, all that force took a toll on Me, so when I got grown and started the work of healing, of peeling away the layers to learn who I actually am; I was happy to find that I’m still different. I don’t have to try to be different because I am, we all are. This is what’s remarkable about being human, about connecting. We all come forth with our own perspectives and our own ways, and we can all learn from one another’s. The revolution needs us all, all of our unique traits and experiences, in order to continue to progress.
Certainly not as much, but I have my moments where I feel the need to blend, the same feeling that caused Me to rebel and lean all the way in as a tween and teen. The difference now is that I try to notice that feeling and breathe through it, making room for my authentic self to emerge and not just a version of Me on the defense of attention. Revealing what’s true for Me is the best thing I can do to connect deeper with the collective, all of our uniqueness is what will continue to push us forward.
Here are some affirmations to support Us all in embracing our differences:
I appreciate what makes Me different.
I am grateful to share space with people who have a different perspective than mine.
I know that each of Us is perfectly made.
My unique contribution is pivotal to progress.
I employ my curiosity when faced with the unfamiliar.
I am safe to reveal my truest self.
I can accept others as I have accepted myself.
Thank You, as always, for bringing your true self. Sending Us all so much Love into the month of August.
